The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (Igad) has expressed concern over the gaps in the implementation of early warning systems for climate disasters.
Uganda is ranked 12th globally among the most vulnerable countries to climate change.
Igad has urged member states to strengthen disaster preparedness and implement early warning systems to provide timely information on natural hazards such as floods, landslides and drought.
Ms Joselyn Bigirwa, the Igad head of mission to Uganda, said the Greater Horn of Africa remains one of the most climate-sensitive regions in the world.
She said early warning systems can save lives and protect livelihoods.
