Madrid, Spain – The International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP) is calling for young pastoralists and advocates to apply for a global gathering in Madrid, Spain, from April 7–11, 2026. The event, themed “Young Pastoralists and New Technologies,” aims to bring together up to 150 young leaders from around the world to share their experiences and innovations.
This unique gathering seeks to highlight the vital role of youth in pastoralist communities and their contributions to rangeland management and livestock systems. Organizers are looking for young people to present on a variety of topics, including:
- Indigenous knowledge and climate adaptation
- Innovations in pastoralism
- Youth leadership in rangeland management
- Technology transforming livestock systems
To apply, interested youth are asked to submit a 5–10 minute video presentation by August 31, 2025. The videos should include visuals or bullet points to support the presentation. Outstanding submissions will be considered for a funded, in-person spot at the gathering.
The event will offer interpretation in English, French, and Spanish, and participants will be provided with catering and a field trip. There is a special call for applications from pastoralist youth across the 11 global IYRP regions.
