Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The African Union Commission has announced that online registration for journalists wishing to cover its upcoming high-level meetings is now open.
According to the AU’s Information and Communication Directorate, the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government and the 48th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council will take place in Addis Ababa from 11–15 February 2026. The sessions will be preceded by the 51st Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee, scheduled between 12–30 January.
The AU confirmed that accredited journalists will be able to attend and report on all open sessions physically at the Union’s headquarters in Ethiopia. “Online registration has been launched on the AU website, and the deadline for media accreditation is 31 January 2026,” the Directorate said in a statement.
The summit, themed “The Africa 2063 We Want”, will also reflect the Union’s 2025 declaration of the Year of Reparations: Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations.
Journalists seeking interviews with AU leadership have been advised to channel requests through the Commission’s Media Coordinator, Molalet Tsedeke. The AU stressed that it will not cover costs associated with media participation.
The African Union has urged journalists to regularly check its official summit page for updates, noting that any changes to the format of the meetings will be communicated promptly.
