GABORONE, BOTSWANA – The African Union Commission, in collaboration with the government of the Republic of Botswana, will convene the inaugural Africa Biodiversity Summit from October 1-5, 2025, in the capital city of Gaborone.

This landmark event is set to be a pivotal moment for the continent’s environmental future, gathering leaders to forge a unified path forward for conservation.

Under the theme ‘Advancing Inclusive Biodiversity Governance’, the summit will address the critical need to integrate local communities and indigenous knowledge into the core of conservation strategies.

The goal is to move towards management models that are not only effective but also equitable, ensuring that the people who live alongside Africa’s rich natural heritage are central to its protection and benefit from its preservation.

The Africa Biodiversity Summit is expected to bring together African Heads of State and Government, other global leaders as well as the conservation community at large on the continent and around the world to foster inclusive biodiversity management pathways and increase financial flows to the Africa’s homegrown solutions.
