ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA – The Government of Ethiopia, in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC), is finalizing preparations to host the second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) from September 8-10, 2025.

The summit, held in Addis Ababa, aims to position Africa as a leader in global climate solutions and bring the continent’s priorities to the forefront of international climate negotiations.

Building on the foundation of the 2023 Nairobi Summit, ACS2 will focus on the theme “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development.” The goal is to track the progress of commitments, define a clear roadmap for implementation, and highlight African-led solutions to climate change. The summit is strategically scheduled between the G20, UNGA, and COP30, giving African leaders a critical platform to influence global climate and finance agendas.

High-Level Attendance Expected

Organizers are mobilizing dignitaries at all levels, including over 45 African Heads of State and Government, ministers, and technical experts.

H.E. Moses Vilakati, Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment at the African Union Commission, emphasized the urgency of the moment. “The urgent need for global cooperation has never been clearer, as Africa strives to combat various climate-related challenges,” Vilakati said. “The ACS2 provides a pivotal moment for us to show leadership in climate actions and showcase the continent as a solution provider.”

Echoing this sentiment, H.E Dr. Fitsum Assefa, Ethiopia’s Minister of Planning and Development, highlighted the summit’s role as a platform for action. “Africa needs a platform that reflects its priorities and drives real outcomes,” she stated. “ACS2 is that platform. It brings voices together, builds alignment and alliances, and creates the space to turn ambition into action on our terms.”

Summit Details and Engagement

The summit will feature a variety of events, including high-level plenary sessions, ministerial roundtables, and youth forums. It will also showcase successful African initiatives in areas like energy, food systems, innovation, and climate-smart infrastructure.

Interest in the event is already high. Organizers report that the online portal has received over 100 proposals for side events and more than 50% of the planned pavilion spaces have been secured by governments and partner institutions.

In the lead-up to the summit, the ACS2 teams have been holding briefing sessions with key stakeholders, including AU Member States, diplomatic missions, and UN agencies, to ensure a collaborative approach.

Ethiopia and the AUC have issued a continued call for partnerships and contributions to support the summit’s delivery and impact.
