About NECJOGHA

The Network of Climate Journalists of the Greater Horn of Africa (NECJOGHA) is a regional organization dedicated to advancing climate change communication  across the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA). Representing journalists from ten countries in the region, NECJOGHA collaborates with National Meteorological Services,  regional climate centers,the IGAD Climate Prediction and Application Centre (ICPAC),  climate experts, and other stakeholders to deliver accurate and accessible climate-related information and products to diverse audiences.  NECJOGHA serves as a vital platform for fostering professional journalism and advocacy on climate issues, ensuring communities are informed and empowered to address environmental challenges.

NECJOGHA envisions a Greater Horn of Africa where communities are well-informed about climate change, equipped with actionable knowledge to adapt and mitigate its impacts, and supported by a robust network of professional journalists driving environmental awareness and resilience.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to promote and coordinate the transmission of climate-related information in the Greater Horn of Africa in the most professional and impactful manner. We aim to empower journalists through training and capacity building to deliver high-quality reporting that supports vulnerable communities.

Partnerships: We work closely with National Meteorological and Hydrological Services, the IGAD Climate Prediction and Application Centre (ICPAC), regional climate forums like the Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum (GHACOF), and other regional climate centers to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of climate products and information.

Capacity Building: We have trained and enhanced the capacity of media professionals in the region for climate journalism and advocacy, equipping them with skills to communicate complex climate data effectively and advocate for climate action.

Advocacy and Communication: Through platforms like our website (www.necjogha.org), social media (e.g., Instagram, Facebook), and regional meetings, we advocate for anticipatory action and climate resilience, ensuring stakeholders receive relevant climate products.

Community Focus: We prioritize reaching communities most at risk, promoting awareness and solutions tailored to their needs, including mental health and financial literacy initiatives to build resilience.

Innovation: We continuously refine our online presence and strategies to ensure effective communication and engagement with diverse audiences.
