BUDUDA, UGANDA 13 September 2025 – Heavy rainfall on Saturday caused localized flooding in Bududa District, disrupting transport and business operations for several hours. According to an incident report, the downpour began at approximately 12:15 PM, causing the River Tsutsu to burst its banks.

The floodwaters significantly affected Bududa Corner in Buwangani Town Council, a region already facing challenges from the collapse of the Buwangani/Bududa Corner Main Bridge eight months ago. The bridge, which served as a crucial link to Manafwa District, has yet to be repaired, leaving residents with limited travel options. While a temporary footbridge is in use, it becomes hazardous during heavy rain, and the only alternative motorable route adds over 5 kilometers to the journey.

The Uganda Red Cross Society is on the ground, offering support to affected families. In a statement, Patrick Omukama Kutosi, the Uganda Red Cross Society Branch Manager for the region, said his teams are monitoring the situation and remain committed to providing timely updates. “We remain on the ground and committed to providing timely updates as the situation develops,” Kutosi stated.

Officials noted that there were no reported deaths or injuries from the incident. However, there are heightened concerns of potential landslides and flash floods as heavy rainfall continues across Bududa, Manafwa, and Namisindwa districts. The Uganda Red Cross is conducting risk assessments in these vulnerable communities.
