On 20 March 2026, the Global Centre for Climate Mobility (GCCM) will host a virtual event examining how drought is reshaping patterns of climate mobility across Africa. Timed to coincide with World Water Day, the session will run from 9:00–10:30 AM EST (5:00–6:30 PM EAT) and will be broadcast live on LinkedIn.

The webinar will bring together policymakers, youth leaders, and community representatives to explore the economic and social dimensions of drought-driven mobility. Organisers say the discussion will combine fresh evidence and data with lived experiences from communities on the frontlines of climate stress.

Among the key aims of the event are:

  • Identifying the challenges and risk multipliers that intensify drought impacts and influence both mobility and immobility.
  • Highlighting community-led adaptation strategies that improve freshwater access, promote sustainable water management, and strengthen resilience.
  • Fostering dialogue to pinpoint practical entry points for policy, planning, and collaboration at national and global levels.

The GCCM emphasises that while the focus is on Africa, the lessons drawn will have global relevance for adaptation policy and practice. Attendees from all regions engaged in water security, climate resilience, and human mobility are encouraged to join.
