  • Windstorms in July 2025 have caused further damage to already worn-out shelters at the Jarra camp for internally displaced persons in North Wello Zone, Amhara.
  • The camp hosts over 8 300 people who had been displaced by conflict in northern Ethiopia and neighbouring regions. The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) estimates that over 1 700 households need shelter assistance, without which they will remain exposed during the ongoing rainy season. There is also a critical shortage of non food items, such as mattresses and blankets.
  • Heavy rainfall at the beginning of August has caused the Awash River to overflow, causing floods in Ilu and Sebeta Hawas districts of Southwest Shewa Zone, Oromia. According to the ERCS, the impact is extending to other districts. There are reports of more than 5 000 people displaced, over 2 400 hectares of farmland damaged, and a number of perished livestock.
  • The ERCS Oromia Regional Branch has established a temporary Emergency Task Force to coordinate resources, deploy volunteers, and mobilise ambulances for evacuation efforts.
