The International Center for Humanitarian Affairs (ICHA) has announced a new collaboration with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Regional Training Centre – Nairobi (IMTR) to strengthen climate resilience across the Greater Horn of Africa.
The partnership will focus on developing standardized training modules for Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) member states, a crucial step in scaling up the region’s capacity to handle climate-related hazards.
The initiative was launched with a workshop officially opened by the Director of the IMTR-WMO Nairobi, who highlighted the importance of creating a training module on Multi-Hazard Impact-Based Forecasts and Early Warning Services (IBEWS). By adhering to WMO’s global standards and guidelines, the program aims to enhance the delivery of timely, actionable, and life-saving information to communities.
This collaboration is set to build expertise in key areas, including climate services, disaster preparedness, and Early Warning Services (EWS). As a dedicated advocate for Anticipatory Action, ICHA is committed to leading this effort to ensure communities are better prepared for and able to respond to climate-related disasters.
