The 2026 African Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC) will be hosted at the Aga Khan University in Nairobi from 10 to 12 November, marking the first time the continent’s flagship gathering of investigative reporters is convened in Kenya.

The annual conference, long associated with the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg where it has been hosted for more than two decades, brings together investigative journalists, editors, data reporters, fact-checkers and trainers from across Africa and beyond. The Nairobi edition signals a deliberate shift north and east, placing the event closer to a growing community of investigative newsrooms and journalism schools in the Greater Horn and Eastern Africa.

Aga Khan University’s Graduate School of Media and Communications, based in Nairobi, has emerged in recent years as one of the leading hubs for journalism training in the region. The 2026 conference will be held at the university’s main campus on 3rd Parklands Avenue.

Organisers have flagged a number of practical points for delegates planning to travel. Aga Khan University is a plastic-bottle-free campus, and delegates have been encouraged to carry a refillable water bottle. Paid parking on site is limited, and organisers have recommended that participants use public transport or e-hailing services rather than driving to the venue. November falls within Nairobi’s short rains season, and delegates have been advised to pack an umbrella or raincoat.

Further details on the programme, registration fees, and any available fellowships or bursaries are expected to be released in the coming months.
